Abstract

1,012,350. Feeding conveyers. UDEC Ltd. Jan. 24, 1964 [Jan. 21, 1963], No. 2478/63. Heading B8A. A bottle transfer mechanism for a sterilizing compartment of the kind wherein a receiving platform for the bottles is disposed on one side of an endless conveyer 38 and a pusher 27 mounted to move across and above the platform 37 transversely to the direction of motion of the conveyer 38 displaces bottles from the platform on to the conveyer, comprises a platform 29 so mounted that it can be tilted and inclined downwardly towards the conveyer 38, whereby broken bottles fall off the platform on to the conveyer. Bottles carried in cases 10 incorporated in an endless chain conveyer 11, slide therefrom in the region of a guide 16, on to a table 17 rotatably adjustable on a shaft 18. Each bottle then rests on a rubber buffer 19 secured to an arcuate plate 20 supported by arms 21 secured to an oscillatable shaft 24 driven in synchronism with the conveyer 11. Upon anti-clockwise rotation of the plate 20, the bottle further slides down on to the receiving platform 29 against another buffer 28. Upon clockwise rotation of the plate 20, the pusher 27 mounted thereon pushes the bottle on to a platform 37 alongside the conveyer 38. This bottle being pushed on to the conveyer by - the next bottle pushed on to the platform 37. The platform 29 is carried by a slotted lever arm 33 which is fixed to a spindle 36 at one end and which is slidably engaged at the other end by a pin 35 passing through the slot 34 and holes in the forked end of a link 31. The latter is fixed to a spindle 30 provided with a manipulating handle. Under the control of this handle the platform 29 may be tilted about 36 into the phantom position shown in Fig. 1. A depending flange 29a on the platform 29 sweeps over the platform 37 during the tilting motion to sweep any pieces of bottles on to the conveyer. Both conveyers 11 and 38 and the transfer mechanism are located in the sterile atmosphere of air-tight casings 39, 40, 41, 42, the latter of which is divided into an open topped chamber 45 and a pivoted lid topped chamber 44 by a partition 43 which terminates short of the bottom of the casing and has its lower edge submerged in a liquid. The conveyer 38 passes horizontally around a pulley 46 between the casings 41, 42 and a deflection rail 47 at the outer edge of the conveyer is pivoted so that part of this rail may be brought across the conveyer surface to deflect the broken bottles into the chamber 44 from where they may be withdrawn under the partition 43. The pivoting part of the deflecting rail may be interlinked with the manipulating handle for the platform 9.
