Abstract
1,012,199. Protective systems. SPERRY RAND CORPORATION. May 15, 1964 [May 28, 1963], No. 20328/64.. Heading H2K. An overload protective arrangement for a circuit, e.g. an amplifier, supplying a load ZL through a circuit-breaker 28, comprises a normally inoperative feed-back path R f , C f connected between output and input stages Q 4 , Q 1 of the circuit and a resistor RS connected in series with the load, the increase in potential across the resistor due to an overload condition rendering the feed-back path operative to bias the circuit to a non-conducting state until the circuit-braker can operate to interrupt the supply +V 3 to the circuit. In the arrangement shown, the increase in potential due to an overload condition renders a controlled rectifier Q 5 conductive. This permits the capacitor C f in the feedback circuit to discharge through the rectifier Q 5 and the resulting voltage developed across a resistor R 3 renders the input transistor Q 1 non-conducting so that the amplifier circuit is turned off. The discharge current I 1 and a current I 4 from + V 3 flow through the rectifier Q 5 , the tripping device (not shown) of the circuit-breaker 28 and the load Z L to cause the tripping of the circuitbreaker in a time shorter than the discharge time of the capacitor C f .
