Abstract

1,012,190. Determining moisture content. CONTROLS CO OF AMERICA. Nov. 4, 1963 [Nov. 26,1962], No. 43379/63. Heading G1N. In a dryer having a rotatable drum wherein it is desired to effect a control function such as switch-off when a predetermined moisture content is achieved, the moisture content is sensed by an electrically conductive button within the drum to which a charge is applied and from which the charge leaks away through the material being dried, the residual charge being measured after a predetermined time. Button 14, Fig. 1, within the tank is supported from the drum wall 12 by an insulator 20 and is screwed into an external conductive member 18 to which the charge is applied by brush 24 and from which the residual charge after a substantially complete revolution of the drum is collected by a brush 26. The collected charge may be used to fire a thyratron in a relay circuit or may be used directly to actuate a relay.
