Abstract
1,012,096. Furnace bricks. JOHN G. STEIN & CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1963 [Nov. 13, 1962], Nos. 42832/62 and 10130/63. Heading F4B. A refractory brick 11 moulded with grooves 12 extending transversely across brick side faces is surrounded over at least part of its length by a sheet metal casing comprising sheet metal members 13 assembled around the brick and welded to metal strips 14 positioned in the grooves so that the brick and casing are interlocked. The U-section members 13 of the embodiment illustrated, which is particularly suitable for chemically-bonded bricks which are cased before being fired, may be replaced by L-section members, each of which have a limb extending past the brick face adjacent to the face the other limb abuts. This former limb is bent on assembly along longitudinal slots, which are of sufficient width to accommodate changes in brick dimensions, into the U-form of the prior arrangement to form a construction, Fig. 2 (not shown), particularly suitable for bricks which are cased after firing. In either embodiment, a hanger tab 17, which is secured to a co-moulded channel- or other section insert 19, may be provided. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), which construction is intended for burnt basic bricks not requiring sheathing over the whole brick length, the arrangement of the casing members is as shown in Fig. 1 except that the said members extend only over a small part of the brick length and act simply to retain a hanger tab which is welded to one of said members and has a tongue at its lower end to engage a corresponding brick recess. The embodiments of Figs. 1 and 2 may be alternatively provided with the hanger tab construction of the lastdescribed embodiment.
