Abstract

1,012,091. Record tape driving means. THERMIONIC PRODUCTS (ELECTRONIC) Ltd., and A. O. CROSSE. June 7, 1963 [May 9, 1962], No. 17897/62. Heading G5R. [Also in Division B6] A magnetic tape is fed by passing it on to a continuously moving flexible member through which air can pass substantially freely, and establishing an air pressure differential through the flexible member to engage the tape with the member for movement with it. In the drawing a porous endless belt 1 passes round a driven roller 2 and an idler roller 3 supported between side plates 4, and is tensioned by a leaf spring 5. A spacer block 6 interposed between the side plates 4 is provided with an elongated recess 8 covered by a perforated plate 9. When the recess 8 is evacuated through a pipe 10, the magnetic tape 7 is sucked on to the belt 1 and driven by it; when normal pressure is restored to the recess the drive is released and the tape 7 rests lightly against the belt.
