An analogue-digital converter has support means, adapted to fit over a register (e.g. a utility meter) having a plurality of output shafts, in order to digitize the angular positions of the shafts, the support means bearing for each shaft a set of concentric annuli of segments detectable by means adapted to be connected to the respective shaft, and at least one of the sets having a further annulus of segments to provide an indication of whether the digit represented by the corresponding shaft is in the high portion or the low portion of its range. In the particular embodiment, two effectively identical sets of annuli are provided connected in paralell for digitizing each shaft, in case of poor electrical connections by the electric contact brushes constituting the segment detecting means. Each set of annuli provides a Gray binary coded representation of a corresponding decimal order. The said further annuli (one provided in each set) each comprise segments centred on alternate inter-digit boundaries each segment having an angular width equal to that between two adjacent inter-digit boundaries, and are used in an unspecified manner to correct slight angular errors, e.g. a reading of 0590 will be interpreted as 0490 if the 5 is in the lower portion of its range.
