Abstract

1,011,989. Controllers. ROTORK ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. July 1, 1964 [April 1, 1963], No. 12850/63. Heading H2B. A valve actuator of the kind described in Specifications 842,581 or 939,353 in which the main drive shaft moves axially with an increase of torque, e.g. as the valve reaches its closed position, and the axial movement is utilized to operate a torque switch to de-energize the motor circuit, includes latching means to maintain the torque switch in its inoperative position until the valve spindle is moved in the opposite direction, a worm and worm-wheel connecting the main drive shaft with the valve spindle. Axial movement of main drive shaft 17 causes rotation of a shaft 18 in a control unit 10 and consequent operation of torque switch 11 or 12 by a switch member 27 pivoted on shaft 18 and actuated by a lever mechanism 30 secured on shaft 18, the rod 31 of the mechanism 30 engaging a pin 35 on a plate 34 provided with adjustable arms 36, 37, engageable with a projection 28 on switch member 27. Switch member 27 is latched by one of its parts 44, 45, abutting a shaft 52, Fig. 4, until released by rotation of shaft 52 when the valve spindle is rotated in the opposite direction. Shaft 52 forms part of the limit switch actuating mechanism described in Specification 1,003,761.
