Abstract

In a radio navigation system a pulse radar plan-position indicator (P.P.I.) display is photographed, the image on the processed photographic film is projected on to a screen, a television camera scans the projected image, a line is introduced into the image, the line starting at the origin on the P.P.I. display and moving in synchronism with the scanning aerial of the radar, and the television camera output is transmitted omni-directionally. The 'line may be introduced into the image by a driven pointer lying against a screen and a half-silvered mirror. A 400 c/s. tone may be radiated on the television sound channel by a directional array which rotates together with the radar aerial; this signal may be rendered audible at a ship carrying a television receiver or may be used to alter the contrast or brightness of the display thereon. In a modification the 400 c/s. signal is not used but the ships carry means responsive to the radar signals.
