Abstract

1,011,752. Differential gears. DANA CORPORATION. July 20, 1962, No. 28070/62. Heading F2D. A motor-vehicle limited slip differential of the planetary bevel gear type, has output shafts 20 clutched through pressure rings 32, slidably splined thereon, to an input casing 10 by interleaved friction discs 35, engaged, to resist differential action, through the pressure rings 32 which are axially loaded by gear tooth pressure acting radially on the planet pinions 28 and transmitted axially to the rings 32 through mating coned surfaces 30, 31 therebetween. Additional clutch pressure is provided by gear tooth pressure acting axially on the side wheels 22. The planet pinions 28 are mounted on a self-centering pin 21 retained by flats 23 thereon in elongated slots 25 of the casing 10.
