Abstract
A cirium/alkanolamine complex (see Division C2) is used as a heat stabilizer in silicone rubbers. The elastomer-forming compositions are composed of conventional ingredients, viz. convertible siloxanes containing saturated, unsaturated or halo- or amino-substituted hydrocarbon radicals, or Si-bonded H atoms, with or without reinforcing silica fillers or semi- or non-reinforcing fillers, structure control additives and pigments. The compositions may be heat cured with organic peroxides or cured at room temperature with a mixture of a methylhydrogensiloxane or an alkyl ortho- or polysilicate and a metal carboxylate or oxide. Examples are given.ALSO:In Example I, a cerium/alkanolamine complex was made by adding an ethanol solution of ammonium hexanitrocerate to triethanolamine; the precipitate which formed was filtered off, washed with dry ethanol and dried at 60 DEG C., to yield a buff-coloured water-soluble powder. Other alkanolames specified are di- and N-methyldiethanoamines and di- and tri-isopropanolamines.
