[Also in Divisions A5, F2 and F4] A ventilator having means for removing grease from gases exhausted from a kitchen includes an exhaust duct formed with back and front walls 11 and 12 communicating with a main ventilating duct (not shown) containing a suction fan, a horizontal spray pipe 40 for spraying cleaning and/or fire extinguishing fluid into the ventilator being mounted on the wall 11 by means of a trough-shaped bracket 42 and a sheet metal bracket 41 to form a grease removing baffle. Gases from cooking equipment pass into the exhaust duct through an opening 22 formed between a hood 15 and the edge 21 of a grease collecting trough 20 mounted on the wall 11 and provided with a drain outlet 23. The gases are forced to follow a tortuous path 43 by a pivoted damper baffle 25, the baffle formed by the pipe 40 and trough shaped baffles 36 mounted on removable ventilator panels 35 so that grease is deposited by centrifugal action. The troughs 36 and 42 may be inclined to drain grease into the trough 20. The pipe 40 has three rows of orifices 50, 51, 52 directed respectively to the underside of trough 36, the back of the damper baffle 25 and the grease collecting trough 20, the orifices 52 being beyond reach of the damper 25 in its closed position (shown dotted). A branch pipe 44 connects the pipe 40 to a secondary horizontal pipe 45 which has rows of orifices 47 and 48 directed towards the troughs 36 and 42. The pipe 40 is connected with a supply of steam or a chemical cleaning fluid which is also effective as a fire extinguisher, the fluid supply pipe, Fig.3 (not shown), having two branches one containing a manual valve which is opened when it is desired to clean the ventilator, and the other containing a solenoid valve which is automatically opened in the event of fire in the exhaust duct (see Division F4).
