1,010,464. Chains. CENTRE D'ETUDESET D'APPLICATIONS DES TECHNIQUES DE PRODUCTION. May 9, 1962 [May 18, 1961; Jan. 12, 1962], No. 4925/65. Divided out of 1,010,463. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F2] A transmission device for pushing or pulling a load over a surface 56, Fig. 1, comprises a chain 1 which is capable of flexing in only one direction and has pairs of drive rollers 33, Fig. 3, each pair of rollers 33 being coaxial with and positioned one on each side of a guide roller 32, a driving sprocket 3 having two rows of axially separated teeth 36 engageable with the drive rollers 33 and a chain guide member 43 having a surface 43a concentric with and facing the sprocket wheel 3 and co-operating with the guide rollers 32. The chain 1 comprises right-hand links, Fig. 4, consisting of two plates 10 and 11 joined together by rivets 28, or by welding, and lefthand links, Fig. 7 (not shown), wherein the plate 10 is on the other side of the plate 11, the links being disposed alternately and symmetrically relative to their longitudinal medium plane and being joined to each other by pivots 31. The plates 10 have each a projection 15 providing front faces 18, 24 and rear faces 19, 25, the front faces of each link abutting the rear faces of the next link to form a rigid bar when the chain moves over the surface 56; the faces 18 and 19 have initially a small clearance therebetween. The sprocket 3 is in two parts connected by, for example, screws 37 and is mounted on a driven shaft 41 rotatable in both directions by hand or an electric motor with reduction gear. An internal guide member 44 is also provided, the guide members 43 and 44 being clamped by spacers 46 and studs 49 and 52 between two plates 47 and 48 of a casing 2.
