Abstract

100,983. Coles, G. A. Oct. 12, 1915, [Convention date]. Fastening; uppers.-The upper 1 of a boot is cut in one piece and blocked to shape so that the meeting edges 2 form on the inner side of the boot an oblique opening 3 which curves for a short distance at its lower end towards the toe and then downwards towards the sole. The ends 2 are seamed together from the point 5 to the sole, the seam being located between the tongue 6 and the usual heel-stiffening piece 7. The boot is fastened by a strap 9 secured at its lower end between the upper and the stiffener 7; the strap is laced through slots 10 and is then passed through slots 11 on each side of a slit 12, Figs. 1 and 3, and buckled on the outer side of the boot.
