Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A computer for solving the equation where P, Q and T are furnace gas pressures, rate of flow and temperatures respectively (see Division C7) while A, K and k are constants, comprises a summing network 29. #Ps and T are measured directly, To is a reference temperature and therefore a constant, but Q<SP>2</SP> is given by the further equation which is solved in a separate computer element 23. In this, a portion of #O is balanced against #Pv, the pressure difference across a Venturi, by a zero-level amplifier 23b controlling a motor 23c driving potentiometer 23a. The movement necessary to achieve balance is communicated to the slider of a second potentiometer 23d, the voltage applied to which represents constant k 3 . Thus, the voltage on this slider is the required Q<SP>2</SP>. #o is a correction factor derived by adding at 24 voltages related to gas temperature # and CO 2 content.
