Abstract

A method of making lacquers for the insulation of electrical leads comprises reacting in an organic solvent and at an elevated temperature (I) an ester of trimellitic acid with ethylene glycol, said ester containing free hydroxyl groups, and (II) a condensate containing free carboxyl groups and being a condensation product of trimellitic acid or anhydride with a diamine of the formula <FORM:1009211/C3/1> where Y is a C1 to C3 alkylene group, and removing the water produced from the resulting product. Specified solvents are cresol, N-methylpyrrolidone, dimethylformamide and diacetamide. Examples are given.ALSO:A method of insulating electrical leads e.g. copper wires comprises applying thereto a lacquer composition comprising an organic solvent containing, as the coating agent, a reaction product of (I) an ester of trimellitic acid with ethylene glycol, said ester containing free carboxyl groups, and (II) a condensate containing free carboxyl groups derived from trimellitic acid or anhydride and a diamine of the formula <FORM:1009211/B1-B2/1> where Y is a C1-C3 alkylene group or oxygen, and baking the applied composition to deposit the coating agent.
