Abstract

Sampling liquids.-Samples of streams of pulp, slimes, wet ores, &c., flowing along a launder 1, 2 are obtained by passing through the stream, either in the direction of flow of the stream or at an angle thereto, a trough 9 of the same width as the stream, the motion of the trough being derived from a tipping-tank 3 supplied with water from a tap 4. Means are provided for obtaining an approximately uniform speed of the trough during its passage through the stream, so as to obtain a sample of the various strata of the stream. In the arrangement shown, the trough 9 is borne by a frame 7 mounted on rollers 8, the frame being connected by flexible members 6 with sectors 5 carried by the tank; so that the speed of the trough at the period of taking a sample is approximately uniform. Instead of the flexible members 6, the sectors may be toothed for engagement with a carriage-operating rack.
