Abstract

Methyl pentenes are separated from methylpentene hydroperoxides by distillation in the presence of an inert liquid diluent, e.g. benzene, having an atomospheric boiling point in the range 67-92 DEG C. The distillation may be carried out at a pressure of 150 mm. of mercury to atmospheric pressure. The overhead fraction, which contains the methylpentenes, may be further fractionated to separate olefin from diluent and any oxy-compounds that may be present.
