Abstract

In the separation of the components of a mixture containing n-heptane, benzene and methylcyclohexane as described in the parent Specification, i.e. by separating n-heptane and benzene overhead from methylcyclohexane in a first column and separating the overhead in a second column in the presence of an azeotropic, pseudo-azeotropic or extractive agent, the heat input of the second column is supplied solely by condensation of the vapour from the first column. To facilitate this, the pressure in the first column is increased to raise the temperature of the vapour effluent.
