A rotary bollard comprises one or more rotary posts 2, 3, each held against rotation in the unwinding direction by a pawl and ratchet device 6, 7, the fixed member, such as the rachet ring 6, being frictionally held by a brake which permits unwinding under a predetermined tension only. The brake comprises shoes 10 pressed by radially arranged springs 11 retained within a recess 9 of the base-plate 1 by a cover 12. The brake may be adjustable. An oilhole 8 is provided in each port 2, 3 to lubricate the bearing 4, 5.
