Abstract

100,791. Schimmel, F. June 25, 1915, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Ordnance, mechanical. - Consists in the combination of a central rotary member and a surrounding grooved casing, the projectiles being first fed axially into the central member and then carried thereby into the groove of the surrounding casing and discharged tangentially. In the form shown, the central member e comprises two opposite radial tubes e<5> and two longitudinal grooves e<7>, and is keyed to the shaft d of a motor c, while the surrounding casing h comprises a spiral groove h<2> and a tangential outlet h<5>, and is rotatably mounted at h<1> on the frame b of the motor. The other end of the casing is closed by a plate l. Projectiles are fed by hand or mechanically through a tube h<6> to the axis of central member e: they then pass through the radial tubes e<5> to the grooves e<7>, which carry them round along the spiral grooves h<2>; finally, they are ejected through the tangential outlet h<5>. Internal shocks are prevented by gates arranged in the radial tubes e<5> and comprising either springs g, Fig. 2, or bell-crank levers o, Fig. 8, eccentrically pivoted at p. The apparatus is trained about a vertical pivot m., a roller race n, a' and, if desired, a vorm gear for making the adjustment being provided. Range is varied by elevating the outlet h<5> by rotating the casing h by a worm gear i.
