Abstract

In the method according to the parent Specification, in which hydrocarbon vapours and industrial gases are desulphurized by catalytically hydrogenating at 280-400 DEG C., absorbing the H2S so produced at below 400 DEG C. in granular material containing at least 5% Mn as MnO, regenerating the absorber by passage of air and optionally cracking H2S-free hydrocarbons catalytically to give a hydrogen-rich gas; the absorber material has an iron content of less than 5% by weight with respect to the Mn content.ALSO:In the method according to the parent Specification, in which a hydrogen-rich gas is obtained from hydrocarbon gases containing organic sulphur compounds by catalytically hydrogenating at 280-400 DEG C., absorbing the H2S so produced at below 400 DEG C. in granular material containing at least 5% Mn as MnO, which is regenerated with air to produce SO2, and steam-cracking the H2S-free hydrocarbons, the absorber material has an iron content of less than 5% by weight with respect to the Mn content.
