Pliers and cutters.-Tools for stripping insulation from the ends of electric conductors are provided with means for clamping the conductor, means for cutting through the insulation, and means for effecting relative movement of the clamping and cutting means longitudinally of the wire to remove the severed insulation. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a pair of clamping-jaws 5 is pivoted to the upper ends of a pair of crossed levers 1 having handle parts 4, and below the jaws 5 are a pair of cutting-jaws 6 on crossed levers 7 connected by links 9 to the levers 1. After the conductor i has been inserted between the jaws 5. 6, the first part of the inward movement of the handles 4 causes the jaws 5 to clamp the conductor and the jaws 6 to sever the insulation. Further movement of the handles causes the jaws 5 to turn about their pivots against the action of springs 17 away from the jaws 6, and also causes the levers 7 to move longitudinally to strip off the severed insulation. Guides 12 for the levers 7 are formed on a plate 11 mounted on the pivot 2 of the levers 1. The levers 1 are opened by a spring 10. The cutters 6 are provided with notches to prevent severing of the core w. The jaws 5 may be grooved to receive the conductor i, and the gripping-surfaces may be serrated. The jaws 5 may also have interengaging teeth. In another form, the clamping-jaws may be integral with the upper ends of the levers 1. In another form, Fig. 7, the gripping and cutting jaws 5<11>, 6" are pivoted to the ends of the levers 1 and are normally drawn together by springs 24 to an extent limited by stops 25, 26.
