Abstract

[Also in Divisions A5 and F2] A transfer valve for a breathing apparatus or pump comprises casing formed in two parts 1, 2 having an inlet 4, an outlet 8 and an exhaust 9. A valve body is fixed in the inlet and comprises a circular portion 11 which normally seats on seating 10 surrounding the exhaust and a peripheral lip portion 12 which normally closes the inlet 4. When the inlet pressure rises above the outlet pressure, the lip is flexed to allow flow from the inlet to the outlet. When the inlet pressure falls, the valve closes and the outlet pressure then acts on the circular portion 11 to allow flow from the outlet to exhaust. The lip portion may seat on a chamfered lip of the housing. The valve body may also have a bellows portion between the inner part of the portion 11 and the fixing stem 6. A similar shaped valve is used as a non-return valve for the inlet 25 of a pumping bellows 15. The bellows is provided with recesses 24a-24e for the fingers and thumb.
