Abstract

1,005,819. Resilient mountings. BELTONE HEARING AID CO. March 30, 1962 [April 17, 1961], No. 12393/62. Heading F2S. [Also in Division H4] A transducer is isolated from the vibrations of a supporting structure by the interposition of tubular members which introduce damping by virtue of their compliance and the air contained within them. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a microphone 10 is mounted within a temple member 14 of a pair of hearing aid spectacles. Sleeves 24 are positioned over opposite ends of the microphone 10 and carry open ended tubes 26. When the assembly is placed within a rectangular cavity in the temple member 14 the tubes 24 are somewhat compressed and will change shape under forces normal to the adjacent wall of the supporting cavity but will slide or roll in face of transverse forces. The tubes may have an unstressed cross-section which is oval, triangular, or rectangular, and together with the sleeves are preferably made of a visco-elastic material such as that known under the trade name " Silastic." The resonant frequency of the arrangement increases with the amplitude of vibration.
