Abstract

Dyestuffs of the general formula <FORM:1005730/C4-C5/1> in which R is an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group and R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group are used to dye fibres or foils of aromatic polyesters, polyamide, cellulose acetate or triacetate. R may be the methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl or isobutyl group which groups may be substituted with hydroxyl, nitrile or carbalkoxy groups or R may be a residue of the formula -CH2-CH2-NR2.R3 where R2 and R3 are identical or different alkyl radicals of 1-6 C-atoms or R may be a residue of the formula -(CH2-CH2-O)n-CmH2m+1 in which n is 1 or 2 and m is an integer from 1 to 4 or alternatively R may be the benzyl or phenyl radical optionally substituted with alkyl, nitro or acetyl groups or halogen atoms. R1 may be a phenyl radical optionally substituted with halogen atoms, alkyl groups of 1-6 C-atoms, alkoxy, nitro, nitrile or phenylazo groups which may be substituted or R1 may be groups of the formula -CH2O(CH2CH2O)lCkH2k+1 -CH2O(CH2CH2O)lCkH2k+1 -COO(CH2CH2O)lCkH2k+1 or -CH=CH-COO-CkH2k+1 in which l is 0, 1 or 2 and k is an integer from 1 to 6. The dyes may be prepared by reacting the appropriate 1-amino-2-sulphonyl-4-bromoanthraquinone with an aromatic primary amine or by oxidizing the appropriate anthraquinonyl mercaptan. Examples of dyeing and printing fabrics of polyethylene terephthalate are given in which a very large number of dyestuffs are listed.ALSO:Fibres of foils of linear aromatic polyesters are dyed with an aqueous dispersion of a dyestuff or mixture of dyestuffs of the general formula in which R is an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group and R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group in the presence of a carrier at 95-110 DEG C. or without a carrier at 120-140 DEG C. alternatively the fibres or foils are printed with a paste containing the dyestuff and subsequently steamed or subjected to dry heat, preferably at 180-220 DEG C. R may be the methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl or p isobutyl group which groups may be substituted with hydroxyl, nitrile or carbalkoxy groups or R may be residue of the formula -CH2-CH2-NR2 . R3 where R2 and R3 are identical or different alkyl radicals of 1-6 C-atoms or R may be a residue of the formula -(CH2-CH2-O)n-CmH2m+1 in which n is 1 or 2 and m is an integer from 1 to 4 or alternatively R may be the benzyl or phenyl radical optionally substituted with alkyl, nitro or acetyl groups or halogen atoms. R1 may be a phenyl radical optionally substituted with halogen atoms, alkyl groups of 1-6 C-atoms, alkoxy, nitro, nitrile or phenylazo groups which may be substituted or R1 may be groups of the formula -CH2O(CH2CH2O)lCkH2k+1 -COO(CH2CH2O)lCkH2k+1 or -CH=CH-COOO-CkH2k+1 in which l is 0, 1 or 2 and k is an integer from 1 to 6. Specified carriers are chlorobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene, o-phenyl-phenol and methyl-naphthalene. The dyestuffs are also suitable for dyeing fibres and foils of polyamides, cellulose acetate and triacetate. Examples of dyeing and printing fabrics of polyethylene terephthalate are given in which a very large number of dyestuffs are listed.
