1,004,846. Stud and socket fastenings. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. May 9, 1963 [July 23, 1962; Nov. 8, 1962], Nos. 28300/62 and 42280/62. Heading E2B. [Also in Divisions A4 and F2] Fastener means for assembly into an aperture in a support, comprises two parts made of synthetic plastics material, one part having a substantially cylindrical shank 1 and the other part comprising a sleeve 5 formed with an axial bore which in inwardly tapered over a portion 8 of its length such that the tapered portion of the bore is of less diameter than that of the shank, such that insertion of the shank 1 into the bore when the sleeve 5 is assembled in an aperture in a support expands the tapered portion of the bore so that the sleeve makes gripping engagement with the wall of the aperture. As shown, in which the fastener is used to secure panels a and b together, the sleeve 5 is formed with a flanged end 6 which mates with a recess 4 in a flange 3 of the shank 1. In another embodiment (not shown), the fastening means is used to secure a handle to a door, the shank 5 including a head which snaps past the inner end of the sleeve.
