Abstract
The deposition of paraffin wax in petroleum containers or conduits is retarded by adding to the petroleum a minor amount of a siloxane copolymer consisting essentially of (1) 0.25-10 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/C4-C5/1> and (2) 90-99.75 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/C4-C5/2> where n is 0, 1 or 2, A is C1-3 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, each R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alicyclic, or aminoalkyl radical, R1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing at least 3 carbon atoms, the N and Si atoms being at least three carbon atoms apart, R11 is a C1-6 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, Y is a radical derived from an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic C1-10 monocarboxylic acid, and a has a value from 0 to a value equal to the number of nitrogen atoms in (1).ALSO:The Specification describes siloxane copolymers consisting essentially of (1) 0.25-10 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/C3/1> and (2) 90-99.75 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/C3/2> where n is O, 1 or 2, A is a C1- 3 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, each R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alicyclic, o-aminoalkyl radical, R1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing at least 3 carbon atoms, the N and Si atoms being at least 3 carbon atoms apart, R11 is a C1- 6 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, Y is a radical derived from an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic C1- 10 monocarboxylic acid, and a has a value from O to a value equal to the number of nitrogen atoms in (1). In an example, a polymer is prepared by reacting 2.7 mal. % of H2NCH2CH2NH(CH2)3 Si(OCH3)3 with 97.3 mol. % of dimethylsiloxane with hydrogen end blocks and an average chain length of 29 siloxane units, in an isopropanol solvent in the presence of a small excess of acetic acid. The product is a copolymer of <FORM:1004685/C3/3> units with (CH3)2SiO units. They are used to coat the insides of petroleum containers or conduits.ALSO:The deposition of paraffin wax in petroleum containers and conduits is retarded by coating the inside surfaces thereof with a siloxane copolymer consisting essentially of (1) 0,25-10 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/B1-B2/1> and (2) 90-99,75 mol. per cent of siloxane units of the general formula <FORM:1004685/B1-B2/2> where n is 0, 1, or 2, A is a C1-3 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, each R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, alicyclic, or aminoalkyl radical, R1 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical containing at least 3 carbon atoms, the N and Si atoms being at least 3 carbon atoms apart, R11 is a C1-6 monovalent hydrocarbon radical, Y is a radical derived from an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic C1-10 monocarboxylic acid, and a has a value from 0 to a value equal to the number of nitrogen atoms in (1).
