Abstract

Impact-resistant polymeric materials are made by heat-polymerizing a composition comprising (1) particulate polyvinyl chloride having an average particle size of from 0.1 to 10 microns, (2) a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride which imparts low temperature flexibility thereto and which comprises a monomeric epoxy compound, and (3) the dimethacrylate of ethylene glycol, 1,2-propylene glycol, 1,3-propylene glycol, 1,3-butylene glycol, 1,4-butylene glycol or 1,5-pentanediol. Preferred epoxy plasticizers are butylisooctylepoxy stearate and octyl esters of epoxidized tall oil acids, which may be used in admixture with di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate. Also present in the compositions may be catalysts, e.g. t-butyl perbenzoate, and stabilizers, e.g. barium cadmium laurate.
