Abstract

A material giving protection against X-rays and gamma rays consists of a flexible nontacky synthetic resin in which is incorporated a heavy metal or a compound of a heavy metal. The synthetic resin may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, or polystyrene and may have incorporated therein in powder form a heavy metal such as lead, bismuth, or barium or a compound of one p of these metals such as litharge, white lead, or lead carbonate. A plasticizer, e.g. a phthalic acid ester, and a colouring matter may also be included.
