Abstract

1,004,404. Thermometers. CORFIELDSIGG Ltd. Oct. 15, 1963 [Oct.18, 1962], No. 39521/62. Heading G1D. [Also in Division A4] A cooking utensil e.g. frying pan is provided with a temperature indicator in thermally conducting contact with the base of the pan and comprising a bimetallic spiral 10 which on heating uncurls to rotate a spindle 8 carrying a pointer 9 moving behind a dial 15. The indicator may be used to indicate when the temperature of a frying pan coated on the inside with polytetrafluoroethylene is nearing that of decomposition of this coating and the indicator may be mounted in the handle, its reading allowing for heat, losses between the handle and the pan base. The indicator is made as a press-fit, in the handle and the pointer 9 may be sector shaped and arranged to fill a sector shaped window in the dial 15 as the decomposition temperature is reached. As an alternative to the spiral 10, a binetallic strap may be used.
