Cooking utensil
The invention relates to a cooking utensil comprising a bowl provided with a base and side walls, and a tail integral with the bowl, this tail comprising a handle and a metal connector which connects the handle to the side walls of the bowl and which is in thermal contact by conduction with the base of the cuvette.
It has been proposed to apply polytetrafluoroethylene (hereinafter referred to as PTFE) to the surfaces of cooking utensils, in particular frying pans, in order to provide them with a surface to which the food during cooking does not stick. If PTFE is heated to a temperature above 2500 C for an extended period of time, toxic decomposition products are given off, and if the concentration of these products in the air exceeds 0.0003 g / m3, they may have effects. harmful to human beings. Therefore, cookware with PTFE coated surfaces will normally come with a warning advising users not to exceed normal cooking temperatures.
These temperatures, however, vary to a large extent and depend not only on the food being cooked but also on the habits and judgment of the users. In addition, it is difficult to get a precise idea of these temperatures in stoves coated with PTFE; from the fact that it is customary in such frying pans without fat, the latter normally giving an indication of the temperature of the pan by the smoke which they give off.
The cooking utensil according to the present invention is characterized in that a temperature indicating device is provided in a housing formed in the connector, this temperature indicating device comprising a housing, an index, as well as a dial in the connector. the housing, and a heat-sensitive element, one end of which is connected to the housing and the other end of which is connected to an axis carrying the index, this element being arranged to move the index relative to the dial as a function of the temperature of the base of the cuvette.
The accompanying drawing represents, schematically and by way of example, an embodiment of a cooking utensil according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of part of a pan incorporating a temperature indicator.
The-.fig. 2 is a section of the indicator taken along line II-II of FIG. 1.
Referring now to the drawing, we have shown in FIG. 1 a part of a pan comprising a 'bowl 1, the interior of which is coated with PTFE and a tail integral with the bowl, this tail comprising a handle 3 made of synthetic plastic and a metal connector 2 which connects the handle 3 to the side walls of the cuvette and which is in thermal contact by conduotion with the base of the cuvette. The fitting! metal 2 has a housing in which a temperature indicating device 4 is provided.
The temperature indicating device, which can be seen in section in FIG. 2, comprises a housing which is constituted by a stepped hollow cylindrical body 5 having an internal partition 6 with an opening 7. The opening 7 constitutes a bearing for a stepped pin 8 carrying an index 9 in the form of a sector which is riveted. on the end of the axle in the front or larger diameter part of the body 5.
On the other end of the axis is fixed one end of a himetallic spiral e 10 that contains the rear part or of smaller diameter of the body 5, the other end passing through a slot it formed in the body 5 and in which it is retained.
The front of the body 5 is closed by a glass disc 12 behind which is a washer 14 which holds a dial 15 against the internal shoulder 16 of the body 5. As shown in FIG. 1, the dial 15 has the shape of a disc from which a sector has been removed to provide a window 17. The dial also has an arc-shaped slot 18 through which the position of the index can be identified. The dial is also provided with a tab 19 arranged at right angles to the dial and directed rearwardly, this tab serving as a stopper against which the index 9 can abut.
The front part of the temperature indicator is press-fitted into the housing of the metal fitting 2 of the tail and, once the indicator is in place, it will allow a measurement of the temperature of the tank to be provided. bowl base 1.
Therefore, when the pan is cold, the index 9, which will preferably have a red color, will not be visible through window 17 but will be visible through slit 18. As the pan gets hotter, the bimetallic spiral 10 will expand and cause axis 8 'to rotate in. the direction of arrow A, shown in a fig. 1.
Thus, an increasingly large part of the index will become visible through the window 17 and this until the position shown in FIG. 1, position indicating 'that the maximum safety temperature has been reached.
it is understood that the temperature indicator does not respond to the actual temperature of the base of the bowl 1 because there is heat loss in the side walls of the bowl and in the tail.
However, the temperature indicator is set to respond to a temperature which, while being lower than that of the base of the cuvette, corresponds to the temperature of the base of the cuvette when that temperature reaches 2400 C.
To avoid the possibility of a 3600 rotation of the index pat, which the bimetallic spiral would cause in the event that the pan were to be overheated, the dial 15 is provided with the tab 19 allowing the index 9 to be retained. .
1I is specified that the temperature indicator can be made many. ways and that the bimetallic coil 10 can be replaced by a thermocouple or by a simple strip of bimetallic material. In addition, instead of the embodiment described above, the temperature indicator r can be constituted by a drum, forming a dial, inside which is housed co axmally a second drum, forming an index, capable of rotating under the influence of a bimetallic spiral and intended to present a warning color through a slit in the outer drum. On the other hand, the temperature indicator, instead of being fixed in position permanently, can be removable.
Although the invention has been described with reference to a pan provided with a PTFE coating, it is also specified that it is applicable to other cooking utensils, either coated with PTFE or coated with another substance which may give off toxic decomposition products when heated, or which may be deteriorated by overheating.
