Abstract

Hydrogenated dimerized terpene having a specific gravity of 0.916 to 0.920 is prepared by treating dipentene with an isomerization catalyst such as acid or active clay containing zinc chloride or aluminium chloride at 170-180 DEG C., followed by hydrogenation and fractional distillation at 210-235 DEG C./4 mm. Hydrogenated trimerized terpene of specific gravity 0.918 to 0.925 is produced by treating dipentene with an isomerization catalyst of sulphuric acid, ferric sulphate or aluminium sulphate at 181-190 DEG C., followed by hydrogenation of a distillate boiling at 190-280 DEG C./4 mm.ALSO:A stable, non-irritant, toilet preparation comprises one or more completely hydrogenated polymers of mono and/or diterpenes, said hydrogenated polymers having a specific gravity of from 0.915 to 0.930. The hydrogenated terpene dimers and trimers exist in various forms, ranging from highly viscous and adhesive liquids to mobile oils. They may be mixed with each other and other conventional ingredients to provide a wide range of toilet preparations. Examples are given of a cold cream, emulsion, cleansing cream, rouge, hair cream, hair pomade, hair oil, mascara, hair lacquer, nail enamel and cosmetic.
