Abstract

1,004,070. Heating strip material by passage of current. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1961 [Nov. 9, 1960], No. 38429/60. Heading H5H. In apparatus for tinning strip steel 19 the strip is heated by passage of current therethrough between a group of electrically-conducting rolls 11, 13, 15 connected to a star-connected polyphase A.C. source 17 having an earthed neutral point 17b and a further group of electrically-conducting rolls 10, 12, 14, 16 connected to earth. Alternatively, rolls 11, 13, 15 may be connected to a delta-connected polyphase A.C. source having one terminal earthed, the connection being such as to produce a balanced currentconduction system, or to a D.C. source having one terminal earthed.
