Abstract
1,002,738. Frequency detectors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 4, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 21469/62. Heading H3A. A safety circuit responsive to the frequency of input pulses at V 1 comprises (a) a diode-pump C 1 , D 1 , D 2 , C 3 which tends to charge capacitor C 3 to a negative voltage (curve 2, Fig. 2) substantially proportional to the pulse input frequency n, and (b) a diode pump C 2 , D 3 , D 4 , C 4 which tends to charge the capacitor C 3 over resistor R 1 in the opposite sense to a voltage (curve 1, Fig. 2) which is substantially constant from a very low value of pulse input frequency. The resultant output voltage V 2 (curve 3) across capacitor 3, causes a switching operation when its level exceeds a level shown at 4 i.e. when the pulse input frequency n exceeds a predetermined value P but is less than a larger predetermined value Q. An alarm is given when the output voltage is below the level 4 i.e. when n < P or when n > Q. The device may be used to indicate excessive radio-active radiation, in a liquid level indicator using a radio-active isotope or in a safety device against excessive speed of a motor.
