Charging. - In a charging - apparatus for furnaces of the kind described in Specification 6917/13, the plate which rotates beneath the charge receptacles c is replaced by a fixed plate e, and a scraper g rotating with the rabble shaft is provided for moving the material over the plate to drop-openings out of alinement with the receptacles. In a modification, the scraper may be fixed, while the receptacles c and the plate e are mounted to rotate.
