1,002,205. Shock-absorbers. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Feb. 28, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 8058/63. Heading F2S. The piston of a double-acting hydraulic or hydro-pneumatic shock-absorber has oblique passages 3, 4 arranged respectively for compression and traction directions and which open, at their outlet ends, into annular grooves 5 covered, in each case, by a spring plate valve pack 6, 8-10 having radial channels 7 in its internal marginal zone adjacent the outlets of the passages 3 or 4. The channels 7 are formed in each pack by radial slots in the spring plate 6 which is covered by a plate 8 of equal diameter. For small movements of the piston 1 liquid transfer takes place solely through the channels 7, larger piston movements causing the plates of the valve packs to lift and the pressure area on the peripheral marginal zones of the valves remaining substantially the same for both conditions of operation so that abrupt irregularities in the characteristic line of the shock absorber are avoided. Either or both of the end faces of the piston 1 may be dished if it is desired to clamp one or both of the valve packs with an initial tension.
