Abstract

1,001,058. Air cushion vehicles. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. March 10, 1962, No. 9299/62. Addition to 935,531. Heading B7K. A sidewall air cushion vessel as claimed in any of Claims 2-4 of Patent No. 935,531 has sidewalls or buoyant extensions thereof and/or buoyant portions of any longitudinally disposed walls between the sidewalls which comprise boxlike pontoon sections. A sidewall air cushion vehicle 1 has the sidewalls 2 constructed as housings for pontoons 15 which are biased downwardly either by springs (not shown) or by air pressure in chamber 18 which is connected through a valve 17 with the supporting cushion 3. In an alternative embodiment the whole sidewall is constructed for vertical movement and the cavity above is independently connected to a source of air pressure through separate control valves, separate remotely controlled air venting valves being provided to permit unrestricted upward movement of the walls. Transverse walls may be constructed as hollow buoyant section pivotally mounted to respond to wave movements. Specifications 935,532 and 1,001,059 also are referred to.
