Abstract

A method of moulding, in particular for potting electrical components, comprises the step of dielectrically pre-heating an epoxy resin composition to a temperature in the neighbourhood of its post-curing temperature, pre-heating a mould to this post-curing temperature, filling the mould with the composition and maintaining the former at the post-curing temperature sufficiently long to gel the composition, removing the gelled composition and curing it at its post-curing temperature. The preferred times for the dielectric pre-heating, gelling and curing are 5-45 secs., 15-30 mins., 30-60 mins. respectively when the post-curing temperature lies between 66.6 and 93.3 DEG C. Among specific composition-forming mixtures mentioned are epichlorohydrin-bisphenol A epoxy resin with an aliphatic amine and hydrous magnesium silicate and the same resin with (a), a fatty acid polymer, (b) tridimethyl amino methyl phenol, (c) the liquid condensation product of a polyamine and a polycarboxylic acid and (d) glycoldi-mercaptoacetate with (c). Also mentioned is an epoxy resin having a repeating unit containing at least one each of the following groups: -OH, RCOO-, 1,2-epoxy, <FORM:1001018/C3/1> , and CH2=CH-, together with chlorendic anhydride and glycerol.
