Abstract
1.000,674. Protective suits. SPEMBLY Ltd. July 17, 1964 [Aug. 24, 1963], No. 33616/63. Heading A3V. A tube 3 leading from an entry aperture of a protective suit for use in contaminated cells is secured to an entry port 6 in the cell wall and, with the aid of hand-holds 13, Fig. 4, is withdrawn inside out through the port 6 until the suit is adjacent to the port to enable the user to enter it. Interlocking members 11 of a sliding fastener secured to the exterior of the tube along lines 1 and 2 are engaged at the suit end of the tube by a runner 4 and progressively interlocked as the wearer proceeds into the cell to reduce the external periphery and thus the obstructing effect of the tube. A lever 5 and a device 7 for repectively operating the runner 4 and depressing the runner to release it from the members 11 are controlled from outside the cell by means of handles 8 and 9. A ball 10, operated by means of a handle (not shown), depresses the central region of the tube to bring the members 11 together. When the runner 4 has been released, the members 11 can be pulled apart by the wearer of the suit or automatically by entry of an outside operator into the tube. A pipe 12 supplies breathing and ventilating air to the suit.
