Abstract
A heat exchanger 10 exchanging heat between two gases comprises first 11 and second 12 heat exchange chambers and an array of heat pipes 19 extending between the chambers. A first gas flows through an inlet 13 of the first chamber and externally along the heat pipes and through an outlet 14. A second gas flows through an inlet 15 of the second chamber and splits into two identical flow paths whilst flowing externally across (transverse) the heat pipes and through an outlet 16. The outlet of the first chamber is a duct and may cause the flow of second gas to split. The first gas may selectively pass over the heat pipes via a baffle 20 having a valve 21 to control the flow rate of first gas. An internal wall arrangement (22, fig 2) may be provided and comprises first and second pair of walls converging from the first chamber wall to an apex. At least one removable panel (24, figs 5 and 6) on the first and/or second chambers for maintenance or cleaning of the heat pipes, and a removable cover 25 on the second chamber enabling the heat pipes to be removed may be provided.
