Abstract

A steerable drilling system includes a drill bit comprising a bit body 16 having at least one movable member 22, and a control arrangement operable to allow the position occupied by the movable member 22 to be adjusted. The moveable member can be a movable cutting blade 22 of the bit or a moveable gauge pad (32, fig 3) of the drill bit. The position of the movable members 22, 32 may be adjusted in synchronism with the rotation of the bit.
