Abstract

A roller bearing assembly 10 comprises a plurality of bearing rollers 12 located between confronting bearing surfaces 14 15, said bearing surfaces 14, 15 being rotatable one relative to the other about the rotational axis of the bearing. At least one of said bearing surfaces 14, 15 includes an annular abutment surface 18 which restricts movement of the rollers 12 in an axial direction parallel with the rotational axis of each roller 12, and biasing means 19 which act in a direction parallel with said axis of rotation of the rollers 12 are provided to urge the bearing rollers 12 against said annular abutment surface (18). The assembly reduces the risk of the rollers 12 slipping resulting in bearing failure and the assembly is of particular use in a wind turbine gear unit.
