[Class 118 (ii)] Light signals are given by forming a spectrum at the transmitting station, stopping out part or parts of the spectrum and recombining the light for transmission as a mixed beam. The portion of the spectrum stopped is arranged so as not appreciably to effect the colour of the mixed beam and the absence of the stopped rays is observed by spectroscopic examination at the receiving-station. The stopping screens may be operated from a keyboard and the received signals may be recorded by means of a spectrographic camera.
