A translucent screen may further be coupled to the housing to close the cavity.
Intense design work has been carried out in recent years to produce optical units with an original and striking visual signature for customers and the public in general. The use of masks of increasing complexity makes it possible in particular to create specific optical effects while ensuring good execution of the desired photometric functions.
The increasing complexity of optical units, and in particular of the mask, however, poses problems of robustness and difficulty of assembly.
In certain cases, we observe in particular the appearance of parasitic light sources in the optical units, due in particular to poor design or poor assembly of the constituent elements of the optical units.

An optical unit intended to equip a vehicle will now be described in what follows with reference jointly to Figures 1-24. The terms “first(s)” (or first(s)), “second(s)”, etc.) are used in this document by arbitrary convention to help identify and distinguish different elements (such as operations, threshold values, etc.) implemented in the embodiments described below.
In this document, the term “optical unit” means a lighting device (or luminous device providing at least one photometric lighting and/or signaling function. It may in particular be a headlight or front projector or a a front or rear light.
The invention relates to an optical unit intended to equip a vehicle, such as a vehicle of the automobile or other type, or more generally a vehicle of the motorized land vehicle type or any vehicle (land, sea (or river), or air) as soon as it must include at least one optical unit.
As already indicated, the invention aims at an optical unit effectively performing at least one photometric signaling and/or lighting function with an aesthetically striking light signature, while being robust and relatively easy to assemble. To do this, a particular assembly of masks is produced in combination with a light guide comprising a plurality of planar members and with an electronic card comprising at least one photon source for supplying light to the light guide.
- une carte électronique comprenant au moins une source de photons ;
- un masque supérieur comprenant une partie inférieure à laquelle est assemblée horizontalement par-dessous la partie inférieure du guide de lumière, la carte électronique étant assemblée horizontalement par-dessous à la partie inférieure du guide de lumière ;

- an electronic card comprising at least one photon source;
- a light guide configured to be supplied with light by said at least one photon source, the light guide comprising a lower part and said at least one planar member extending from said lower part; And

Furthermore, we consider in what follows, by way of non-limiting example, that the optical unit 2 is a front headlight (or front projector). For example, this front headlight can equip part of a front tailgate and/or a front wing of a vehicle. But the optical unit could also be a rear light.
The notions of front/back, front/behind, top/bottom, above/below, upper/lower, etc. must be understood in relation to the x, y and z directions of the optical unit 2, and more generally in relation to the general direction of propagation of the photons emitted by the optical unit 2.
Figures 1-24 illustrate different aspects of the optical unit 2, different embodiments implementing some of these aspects being described below with reference to the figures.
As illustrated in Figures 1-2, the optical unit 2 according to the example comprises a housing 6 delimiting a cavity 8 in which a subsystem 4 is arranged. This subsystem 4 comprises: a light guide 20, an electronic card 22 and a masking assembly (or mask structure) 10.
More specifically, the housing 6 can be produced for example by molding an opaque and rigid material, such as for example a plastic or synthetic material. The housing 6 delimits the cavity 8 housing the elements 10, 20 and 22 participating together in the realization of at least one photometric lighting and/or signaling function.
The electronic card 22 comprises at least one source of photons to supply light to the light guide 20. Each source of photons can, for example, comprise at least one light-emitting diode (or LED) or at least one laser diode or even at least a lightbulb. The configuration of the photon source(s) in terms of number, positioning, arrangement, type, etc. can be adapted by a person skilled in the art as appropriate. The electronic card 22 includes electronic means configured to control the operation of each photon source. This card can for example be a printed circuit board of the PCB type (for “Printed Circuit Board” in English).
We consider below by way of example that the light guide 20 comprises a plurality of planar members 21 (3 in number for example) extending inclined towards the front of the optical unit 2, other arrangements being however possible in particular in terms of numbers, positions, orientations, etc. planar members 21. The number of planar members 21 can in particular take any value greater than or equal to one '1), and in particular, one, two, three or four. The plane members 21 can all extend in the same direction or in different directions depending on the case.
The planar (or flat) members 21 are configured to guide the light supplied by the photon source(s) of the electronic card 22. These planar members 21 can have different shapes, in particular rectangular (as illustrated in the figures), square or round. , insofar as these members 21 are flat or have at least one flat surface. As such, each planar member 21 comprises for example two parallel planar surfaces. The planar members 20 form, for example, blades guiding the light.
The masking assembly 10 comprising an upper mask 12, a lower mask 14 and a front mask 16, these masks being configured to mask certain elements of the optical unit 2, and in particular the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 and the card electronic 22 while leaving the planar members 21 of the light guide 20 exposed. Thus, the planar members 21 are visible from the outside of the optical unit 2 so as to achieve the desired photometric function(s) with an aesthetically striking light signature. In particular, the masking of the electronic card 22 and the lower part 20b of the light guide makes it possible to give the impression to an observer that the planar members 20 are “suspended”. Thus, each planar member 21 can for example form a suspended blade (or suspended effect blade) guiding the light at the front of the masking assembly 10.
The subsystem 4 is a subassembly preassembled separately, then assembled to the housing 6 of the optical unit 2. The assembly of this subsystem 4, and more generally of the optical unit 2 illustrated in Figures 1-2, is now described jointly in Figures 3-24, according to particular non-limiting examples of embodiment of the invention.
According to a particular example, the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 is placed in position against the underside of the upper mask 14 by a plurality of first centering protuberances 26 extending from (or emanating from) the underside of the upper mask 14. In the example illustrated in Figures 3-6, the centering protuberances 26 are thus formed on a lower face of the upper mask 12. The lower part 20b of the light guide 20 comprises orifices (or openings) into which the centering protuberances 26 during assembly of the light guide 20, so as to ensure good positioning of the light guide 20 relative to the upper mask 12 (Figures 4-6). The configuration of the first centering protuberances 26 in particular in terms of number, position, shape, arrangement, etc. can be adapted by a person skilled in the art as appropriate.
As described below, the electronic card 22 may include an interface configured to couple to a connection port (or connector).
According to a particular example, a plurality of second centering protuberances 30 extends from the lower part 20b of the light guide 20. As illustrated in Figures 4-5, the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 can thus comprise on its face lower (below) the second centering protuberances 30 (Figures 4-5). These second centering protuberances 30 can be used in a manner similar to the first centering protuberances 26. The electronic card 22 can then be placed in position against the underside of the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 by the plurality of first centering protuberances 26 passing through the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 and by the plurality of second centering protuberances 30 extending from the lower part 20b of the light guide 20. To do this, the electronic card 22 may comprise orifices (or openings ) into which the centering protuberances 26 and 30 are inserted during the assembly of the electronic card 22 against the underside of the lower part 20b of the light guide 20, so as to ensure good positioning of the electronic card 22 relatively both to the upper mask 14 and to the light guide 20. The combined use of the centering protuberances 26 and 30 makes it possible to limit position errors and dispersions.
The configuration of these second centering protuberances 30, in particular in terms of number, positioning, shape, etc., can vary in a manner analogous to the first centering protuberances 26. In the example shown in Figures 7-9, the second protuberances of centering 30 each form a support surface 28, for example of annular shape.
As illustrated in Figures 10-14, the lower mask 14 comprises an intermediate part 14c (located between an upper part 14a and a lower part 14b) assembled horizontally from below to the electronic card 22. Once assembled to the electronic card 22, the intermediate part 14c of the lower mask 14 is positioned against the underside of the electronic card 22, so as to form the subsystem 4. The lower part 12b of the upper mask, the lower part 20b of the light guide 20, the electronic module 22 and the intermediate part 14c of the lower mask 14 thus form a stack in the z direction (vertical direction of the subsystem 4 and more generally of the optical unit 2), in this order from top to bottom.
To do this, the upper face of the central part 14c of the lower mask 14 can comprise support surfaces 32 (Figures 10 and 12-13) of appropriate shape and distribution to allow good positioning and maintenance of the central part 14c against the electronic card 22.
According to a particular example, the intermediate part 14c of the lower mask 14 is placed in position against the underside of the electronic card 22 by the plurality of first and second centering protuberances 26, 30 passing through the electronic card 22. The combined use of the protuberances centering 26 and 30 makes it possible to limit position errors and dispersions. In particular, the lower mask 14 can be indexed by the same centralizers 26, 30 as those used to position the electronic card 22. It is thus possible to ensure precise and reliable assembly of the different elements of subsystem 4.
The different parts of subsystem 4 can also be locked (or integrally fixed) together by at least one coupling means, for example by means of locking screws 33 (two screws for example, see Figures 10-11 and 13 ). The configuration of these coupling means in particular terms of type, number, positioning, shape, etc. can be adapted depending on the case.
Cette configuration permet d’assurer une bonne fixation des masques supérieur et inférieur 12, 14 malgré le manque de place au niveau de la partie haute 12a du masque supérieur 12.According to a particular example, the upper mask 12 comprises an upper part 12a from which extends towards the rear of the subassembly 4 (and therefore towards the rear of the optical unit 2 once the subsystem 4 mounted on the housing 6), one (or at least one) fixing tab 42 fixed by clipping to the upper part 14a of the lower mask 14 to secure together the upper and lower masks 12, 14 (Figures 14-17). To do this, the upper part 14a of the lower mask 14 can comprise support zones 46 against which zones 42 of the distal end of the fixing tab 42 are positioned abutting. This configuration ensures good fixing upper and lower masks 12, 14 despite the lack of space at the upper part 12a of the upper mask 12.
Selon un exemple particulier, la patte de fixation 42 s’étend horizontalement depuis la partie supérieure 12a du masque supérieur 12.According to a particular example, the fixing tab 42 extends horizontally from the upper part 12a of the upper mask 12.
According to a particular example, several fixing lugs 42 are used to secure the top of the upper mask 12 with the top of the lower mask 14.
As already indicated, the subsystem 4 once completely assembled comprises the masking assembly 10, the light guide 20 and the electronic card 22. This subsystem 4 is assembled to the housing 6 of the optical unit 2, these two elements being secured together by all appropriate coupling means. The subsystem 4 is thus housed in the cavity 8 of the housing 6 (figures 1-2).
According to a particular example, during a manufacturing process, the subsystem 4 is assembled to the housing 6 before integrating the front mask 16 into the masking assembly 10 (and therefore into the subsystem 4).
Ainsi, la zone inférieure 14b du masque inférieur 14 permet le centrage du masque inférieur 14 relativement au boitier 6.According to a particular example, the lower part 14b of the lower mask 14 is placed in position against the housing 6 by means of centering protuberances 52 extending from (or emanating from) the housing 6, as illustrated for example in Figures 14-15 , 18-19. For this purpose, the lower part 14b of the lower mask 14 may comprise orifices (or openings) into which the centering protuberances 52 of the housing 6 are inserted in order to ensure precise positioning of the subsystem 4 in the optical unit 2 Thus, the lower zone 14b of the lower mask 14 allows the centering of the lower mask 14 relative to the housing 6.
Ainsi, la zone inférieure 14b du masque inférieur 14 permet le couplage ou vissage entre le masque inférieur 14 et le boitier 6.According to a particular example, the lower part 14b of the lower mask 14 is coupled or locked with the housing 6 by means of at least one locking screw 53, as illustrated for example in a non-limiting manner in Figures 14-15, 18-19 . Thus, the lower zone 14b of the lower mask 14 allows the coupling or screwing between the lower mask 14 and the housing 6.
According to a particular example, the lower mask 14 comprises at least one fixing tab 40 extending, from the upper part 14a of the lower mask 14, towards the rear of the subassembly 4 (and therefore towards the rear of the optical unit 2 once the subsystem 4 is mounted on the housing 6). In the example illustrated in Figures 14-15 and 18-19, these fixing lugs 40 are two in number, other examples with a single lug 40 or more than two lugs 40 being possible. The distal end 40a of each tab 40 is inserted into a groove 41 formed by a peripheral edge of the housing 6. Glue can also be deposited in the groove 41 to secure the fixing tabs 40 to the housing 6. Use of these fixing lugs 40 is advantageous insofar as it makes it possible to securely fix the subsystem 4 to the housing 6, particularly when the space at the upper part of the lower mask 14 is limited.
Selon un exemple particulier, la ou les patte de fixation 40 s’étendent horizontalement depuis la partie supérieure 14a du masque inférieur 14.According to a particular example, the fixing tab(s) 40 extend horizontally from the upper part 14a of the lower mask 14.
As already indicated, the front mask 16 is further assembled to the lower part 14b of the lower mask 14 and to an intermediate part 12c of the upper mask 12 to mask the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 and the electronic card 22 while leaving discovered the planar members 21 of the light guide 20. This arrangement makes it possible to produce an aesthetically striking visual effect insofar as the planar members 21 guiding the light (emanating from the electronic card 22) give the impression of being suspended in the optical unit 2.
According to a particular example, each planar member 21 thus forms a blade with a suspended effect guiding the light at the front of the masking assembly 10 (and therefore at the front of the optical unit 2).
According to a particular example, each planar member 21 extends from the lower part 20b of the light guide 20 through a respective opening 73 formed by the upper mask 12 on the one hand and by the front mask 16 on the other hand . Thus, the base of the planar members (or blades) 21 is inserted between the upper mask 12 and the front mask 16.
According to a particular example illustrated in particular in Figures 14-15 and 18-24, the electronic card 22 comprises a connection port (or connector) 60 coupled to a connection cable 62 (electrical harness) of the optical unit 2 through a opening (or orifice) 36 provided for this purpose in the intermediate part 14c of the lower mask 14, this connection port 62 being masked by the front mask 16.
The optical unit according to the present invention makes it possible to effectively provide at least one photometric signaling and/or lighting function with an aesthetically striking light signature, while being robust and relatively easy to assemble. The optical unit may in particular include one or more light guides with a so-called “suspended” effect in the sense that they appear to be suspended from the point of view of an external observer. When the planar members project the photons emanating from the photon source(s) of the electronic card, the technical elements of the optical unit (electronic card, connector, lower part of the light guide) are hidden, which makes it possible to achieve the effect desired visual appearance while ensuring good assembly quality (precise and reliable positioning of the parts in relation to each other, including while the vehicle is running).
