Description
The invention relates to a saddle seat made from linen for a bicycle saddle placed on a frame, like that of patent FR2935344.
Etat des connaissances : Les selles de vélo se caractérisent par plusieurs technologies connues : State of knowledge: Bicycle saddles are characterized by several known technologies:
Par ailleurs, et en raison de la qualité des matières premières utilisées, elles présentent des prix de vente placées en haut de gamme.the first is that of leather saddles (the first historically to appear) which is distinguished by a so-called trapezoid frame which stretches a piece of leather. According to this principle, the piece of leather is both taut and suspended, which gives the seat both support and elasticity. Let us cite significant patents for this technology: FR2935344 “Berthoud”®, US823916, US790717, GB190825877, GB190815978, GB190806596, GB190726566, GB190623141, GB190622289 “Brooks”®, as well as “Ideal” manufacturing »®, “Rivet”® more confidential. The limitation of these saddles is that they become obsolete when they are subjected to continuous degraded weather conditions. To overcome this drawback, regular maintenance is necessary (addition of grease or leather care cream after drying the saddle). On the other hand, if they are well maintained, these saddles are so reliable that they can be guaranteed for life. Furthermore, and due to the quality of the raw materials used, they have sales prices placed at the top of the range.
A second technology (more recent and better known) consists of placing on a polymer plate acting as a rigid supporting shell, a layer of foam (simple foam, gel, etc.), itself covered with a plasticized or leather skin. Let us cite for example patent TW200911602A from the company “Selle Royale”®, but also the patents: US2022048585, TW202124206, US2021129931, US2013127214, US200812271, US2006119148, WO20555366, WO0183286 of the company “Selles Italia”® which are perfect examples of this type of technology. Many other brands use this design, for the best known: “Fizik”®, “Prologo”®, “Selle pro”®, “SMP”®…. These saddles have a manufacturing advantage at a very reasonable cost price, both by virtue of their design and the industrial manufacturing techniques used. On the other hand, and taking into account the presence of the plate (carrying shell), this constitutes a resistance to bending which makes this type of saddle less comfortable over long travel distances (in the presence of the person installed on the saddle and continuous micro shocks suffered by the state of the road during the journey). For these reasons of reduced comfort by the presence of a rigid supporting shell under the seat, manufacturers are trying to solve this problem with various damping technologies. Let us cite the patents: EP241261, US5714108, IT125100 from the company “San Marco”®, and FR2710021, FR2589110, ES289821, EP0516592, EP0432106, EP0353201, EP1223098 from the company “Selles Italia”®, which are all examples of this quest comfort on saddles with supporting shells. Finally, it should be remembered that polymer foams, mainly used in such technologies, quickly become obsolete, characterized by a softening of the latter. In the presence of the rigid supporting shell placed below the seat, the softening of the foam (caused by its age) amplifies the micro shocks on the tabletop, which deteriorates comfort by making the presence of the supporting shell felt. This is why manufacturers recommend changing these saddles every 2 to 3 years.
Il convient d’indiquer que ces selles ne présentent aucune contrainte d’entretienAnother technology developed by the English company "Brooks"® with its "cambium"® range (patent no. USD753926) consists, on the basis of the description of leather saddles with a trapezoid frame, in replacing the leather by a sheet of cotton sandwiched in a double layer of rubber, all forming a monolith. It should be noted that these saddles do not present any maintenance constraints.
Closest to the technology that we have studied, note the carbon saddles. They are characterized by the presence of resinated braided fiber. The functional benefit of this technology lies in its low weight. They are generally monocoque and integrate the chassis (see patents: US5536065, EP1394025). On the other hand, these saddles are renowned for short distance competitions, but provide basic comfort that is incompatible with long distance use, due to the low bending of the carbon. Furthermore, these stools are not recyclable and are made from petroleum components.
The object of the invention is to remedy the various disadvantages of lack of comfort, obsolescence linked to use or necessary maintenance of the saddle seat, while ensuring perfect watertightness, and according to the principle to use bio-sourced materials.
Presentation of the invention : The invention relates to a saddle seat (also called saddle cover) for a bicycle made from linen placed on a saddle frame. This seat is of the “suspended” type in that it is called upon to be held at different points (front and rear) to a saddle frame (a) made up of arms forming a trapezoid and stretching the saddle seat, thus relating to to leather saddle technology. These saddle frames are equipped with seat tension systems at the front, while they have a plate at the rear which connects the two arms of the frame. Finally, it should be remembered that the saddle seat is attached to the frame (a) either by rivet or by screws.
The device, object of the present invention (
- an anti-UV protective film (b) covering the seat of the saddle.
- a bi-bias linen fabric with a content of approximately 500g/m² (c) placed just after the anti-UV film, and constituting a first part of the upper surface of the saddle, this fabric (c) being impregnated polypropylene resin,
- this linen fabric (c) is placed on another twill linen fabric (d) with an approximate content of 250g/m², itself impregnated with polypropylene,
- finally a non-fabric linen fabric (e) with an approximate content of 2000g/m² is placed as mechanical reinforcement under the docking areas with the reinforcement (a).
Regarding the manufacturing process of the saddle seat, this consists of polymerizing the assembly in a single pass in a mold, which indicates successively placing in this mold:
- the unsewn linen fabric (e) at the points of contact with the frame,
- twill woven linen (d) in a single piece over the entire mold,
- the bi-bias linen fabric (c) in one piece over the entire mold,
- and finally the anti-UV protective film (b) in a single piece over the entire mold.
Thus, polymerization prevents any water absorption in the fibers of the seat, the saddle no longer requiring maintenance since its seat is trapped in polypropylene. The comfort obtained remains optimum because the polymer remains thin and its structure deformable, the mechanical resistance of the seat being mainly obtained by the presence of different layers of linen fabrics (as opposed to polymer trays). All of this provides the elasticity necessary for the deformation of the seat in the presence of the cyclist and to overcome road obstacles. Finally, like a leather saddle, the tension/flexion couple of the seat is always adjustable, so as to. adapt it to the needs of the cyclist.
