Description
The present invention relates to a molding element and to a method of manufacturing this molding element. More particularly, the invention relates to a molding element for a tire curing mold and the manufacture of this molding element for a tire curing mould.
By tyre, is meant a tire, in particular composed of different rubber compounds and reinforcing elements, which is mounted on a rim and filled with air or a particular gas in order to form a wheel with this rim. By tyre, it is also designated a tire, in particular composed of different rubber compounds and reinforcing elements, which is mounted on a rim without being filled with air or a particular gas in order to form a wheel with this rim.
The presence of vents in a baking mold is necessary to evacuate the air which can become trapped between the object to be molded and the baking mold during the closing of the mold and which can prevent the material of the object from mold to fit the molding surfaces of the baking mold as closely as possible. In particular, the vents are necessary in partitioned areas of the mold which do not allow natural evacuation of the air, as may be the case at the interface between two molding elements that are movable relative to each other.
According to document WO2016012690, the vents can take the form of valves mounted in bores made in the molding element. A first drawback of this solution lies in the significant time which is necessary to make the bores and then to mount the valves, in particular when the molding element comprises numerous vents. Another disadvantage of the valves is to leave marks on the tire made with this mould.
Document KR101384920 proposes replacing the vent valves with vents directly integrated into the molding element and having an opening of reduced section on the side of the molding surface of the molding element. In more detail, the width of the reduced section opening of a reduced vent on the side of the molding surface is between 0.02 and 0.1 mm. Unfortunately, the opening of reduced section of these vents is not enough to completely prevent the rubbery material of the future tire from penetrating into these vents and it also does not make it possible to fight against the fouling of these vents by smoke particles from tire curing. In addition, these vents of reduced section also leave marks and/or burrs on the tire once cured. Finally, it should be noted that the document KR101384920 does not provide information on the method of manufacturing a molding element comprising such vents with a reduced section opening.
Document WO2016015927 describes a method for manufacturing a molding element with venting slots having a width between 30 and 130 μm, and preferably between 30 and 80 μm. According to this document WO2016015927, the molding element is initially manufactured in a foundry without its vents, then the vents are subsequently made in the mold by removing material with a laser beam, with a laser beam contained in a jet water, or using an electron beam. However, this document WO2016015927 does not provide a solution to completely prevent the rubbery material of the future tire from penetrating into these vents, or to combat the fouling of these vents by smoke particles resulting from the cooking of the tire.
Alongside the documents which have just been cited, document EP0591745 is also known, which proposes a solution aimed at allowing the venting of a tire curing mold without providing vents in the molding elements of this mold. To this end, this document EP0591745 provides for applying a porous film to the molding surface of the molding element during its manufacture, this porous film being capable of conducting the air from the molding surface towards the natural venting paths which are located on the molding element, for example at the interface between two molding elements of the same mold. Due to the method of applying the porous film provided by this document EP0591745, the feet of certain slats are covered by the porous film and can constitute venting paths for the air towards clearances provided in the back of the molding element.
The venting solution described in document EP0591745, aimed at avoiding the creation of holes or venting slots in a molding element, does not offer sufficient venting flow for baking molds with numerous partitioned zones. In addition, the porous film present at the feet of the slats and in the thickness of the molding element is difficult to clean and will end up being permanently obstructed after a few cycles of use of the mould.
The object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of the venting solutions of the prior art by providing a venting solution that is less expensive to manufacture than a solution with valves, with vents protected from fouling, and capable to provide sufficient venting flow for molds with many partitioned areas.
To this end, the subject of the invention is a method for manufacturing a molding element of a baking mould, the molding element comprising a molding inner surface and an outer surface opposite the molding inner surface, and the molding element molding comprising at least one vent allowing air to pass between the molding inner surface and the outer surface of the molding element.
According to the invention, the manufacturing process comprises the following steps:
a) manufacture of the molding element and manufacture of at least one vent in this molding element,
b) application of a porous coating on the molding inner surface of the molding element and in a zone where at least one vent opens, the porous coating forming a porous cover at the outlet of the vent.
Advantageously, the porous seal reduces the passage of air provided by the vent but does not completely obstruct the vent. Thus, the porous seal makes it possible to greatly limit, or even avoid, the penetration of molded material into the vent. In addition, due to the small size of its pores, the porous seal also makes it possible to limit the clogging of a vent by smoke particles from the cooking of an object such as a tire.
Advantageously, by also being non-stick, the porous coating can also facilitate the removal of the object from the mold.
Advantageously but not necessarily, the invention may also provide that:
- the thickness of the porous coating applied in step b) is between 5 and 50 μm, preferably between 5 and 20 μm,
- the porous coating applied in step b) is a fluoropolymer coating,
- the porous coating applied in step b) is applied by spraying, by dipping in a bath, or by spraying powder on the molding element which has been polarized beforehand,
- the vent taking the form of a slit, the slit is made with a width of between 30 and 80 µm during step a),
- when the vent is a slot whose width is between 30 μm and 55 μm, the coating applied during step b) has a thickness between 5 μm and 20 μm, and when the vent is a slit whose the width is between 55 μm and 80 μm, the coating applied during step b) has a thickness between 20 μm and 50 μm,
- the molding element is manufactured during step a) by foundry, by machining and/or by additive manufacturing,
- the vent comes from manufacture with the molding element, is made by removing material in the molding element, and/or is provided in an added part in a housing provided in the molding element,
- a step of sandblasting the molding element is carried out between steps a) and b),
- a step of sandblasting the molding element being provided after the manufacture of this molding element with the vent, the vent is closed or protected by a mask during this sandblasting step.
The invention also relates to a molding element of a baking mould, the molding element comprising a molding inner surface and an outer surface opposite the molding inner surface, and the molding element comprising at least one vent allowing a passage of air between the molding inner surface and the outer surface of the molding element.
According to the invention, a porous coating is present on the molding inner surface of the molding element and in a zone where at least one vent opens, this porous coating forming a porous cap at the outlet of the vent.
Advantageously but not necessarily, the invention may also provide that:
- the thickness of the porous coating is between 5 and 50 μm, preferably between 5 and 20 μm,
- the vent taking the form of a slit, the slit has a width of between 30 and 80 µm,
- the porous coating has a thickness of between 5 µm and 20 µm when the vent is a slot whose width is between 30 µm and 55 µm, and the coating has a thickness of between 20 µm and 50 µm when the vent is a slit whose width is between 55 µm and 80 µm,
the porous coating is made of fluoropolymer.
The invention also relates to a curing mould, in particular for a tire, which comprises at least one molding element as it has just been defined above.
It should be noted that the use of a non-stick coating on tire mold molding elements is known, for example from document FR1192805. However, until the present invention, it was customary to avoid applying such a non-stick coating above the vents. For this purpose, the vents were generally masked during the application of the non-stick coating on the molding element.

The invention relates to a molding element of a curing mold such as a curing mold for a tire, and to the method of manufacturing this molding element.
With a view to manufacturing a tire, a tire blank is first assembled from semi-finished products in the form of strips of rubber compounds, reinforced or not, and non-rubber components, such as metal rods. Then, this tire blank is placed in a curing mold in order to undergo a cycle of curing and molding under pressure which will give the tire its final shape. In particular, it is during this curing and pressure molding step that the sculptures present on the tread of the tire are created. The curing also aims to ensure the cohesion between the various components of the tire, in particular via the vulcanization of the rubber mixtures.
Figures 1 to 3 represent a molding element 10 which could be used in a tire curing mold to shape the tread of this tire. In the case where this baking mold is a mold with sectors, a molding element 10 is mounted on a support belonging to a sector of this baking mold. In a sector mould, the sectors are movable relative to each other. In addition, each sector is movable between an open position used to introduce the tire blank or the object to be molded into the curing mold and to extract the tire after curing or the object which has just been molded, and a closed position used for curing and molding under pressure the tire blank or for molding the object to be molded.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the molding element 10 comprises a molding inner surface 12 and an outer surface 14 opposite the molding inner surface. The outer surface 14 of the molding element 10 is for example intended to be in contact with another part of the baking mould, such as for example a support belonging to a sector of the baking mould.
For example, the molding inner surface 12 comprises longitudinal walls 16 intended to create longitudinal grooves in the tread of the tire or in the object to be molded, and transverse sipes 18 crossing the longitudinal walls 16 and intended to create incisions transverse in the tread of the tire or in the object to be molded.
In order to allow evacuation of the air which could be trapped between the molding inner surface 12 and the tire blank or the object to be molded, and particularly in a partitioned zone such as that located between two longitudinal walls 16 and two transverse strips 18, the molding element 10 comprises at least one vent 20 allowing air to pass between the molding inner surface 12 and the outer surface 14 of the molding element.
In a preferred embodiment of a molding element 10, a vent 20 has a depth P20 of between 0.5 and 3 millimeters, and preferably between 1 and 2 millimeters. The depth P20 of a vent 20 is measured in the normal direction DN in which this vent 20 extends from the molding inner surface 12. The depth P20 of a vent is limited to reduce the manufacturing time of this vent.
In order to limit the depth P20 of a vent, the vent 20 preferably opens into a recess 24 provided in the outer surface 14 of the molding element. A clearance 24 offers a larger air passage than the vent 20. A clearance 24 does not open into the molding inner surface 12. A clearance extends only in part of the thickness E of a molding element 10 , the thickness E being the distance separating the molding inner surface 12 from the outer surface 14.
In order to limit the penetration of molded material into the vent 20 and to limit the fouling of the vent by possible fumes resulting from the cooking of the object to be molded, the invention provides that a porous coating 30 is present on the molding inner surface 12 of the molding element and in a zone where at least one vent opens.
In more detail, the porous coating 30 forms a porous cap 32 at the outlet of the vent. This porous coating 30 penetrates little or not into the vent. The porous coating 30 does not extend the full depth of the vent. Thus, the porous coating 30 does not participate in the retention of molded material or other particles in the vent, which facilitates the cleaning of the vent after one or more uses of the mold.
For example, the thickness E30 of the porous coating 30 is between 5 and 50 μm, and preferably between 5 and 20 μm.
The use of a porous coating 30 is particularly suitable when the vent 20 takes the form of a slot 22 and this slot 22 has a width l22 of between 30 and 80 μm. The width l22 of a slot 22 is the smallest dimension of the opening created by this slot 22 in the molding inner surface 12.
Idéalement, le revêtement poreux 30 a une épaisseur E30 comprise entre 5 µm et 20 µm lorsque l’évent 20 est une fente 22 dont la largeur l22 est comprise entre 30 µm et 55 µm, et le revêtement a une épaisseur comprise entre 20 µm et 50 µm lorsque l’évent 20 est une fente 22 dont la largeur l22 est comprise entre 55 µm et 80 µm.Ideally, the porous coating 30 has a thickness E30 of between 5 μm and 20 μm when the vent 20 is a slot 22 whose width l22 is between 30 μm and 55 μm, and the coating has a thickness of between 20 μm and 50 μm when the vent 20 is a slot 22 whose width l22 is between 55 μm and 80 μm.
In order to remain in position above the vent 20, the porous lid 32 formed by the porous coating rests at least partly on the molding inner surface 12 in the vicinity of the vent 20. Ideally, the porous lid 32 rests at least 2 mm on the molding inner surface 12 and all around the opening created by the vent 20 in the molding inner surface 12. As illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, the porous coating 30 can also be present over the entire area of the molding inner surface 12 where the vent 20 is located.
Advantageously, the porous coating 30 is made of fluoropolymer. By being made of a fluoropolymer, the porous coating 30 also offers non-stick properties useful for dislodging the molded object during demoulding.
A molding element, for example of a tire curing mold, generally comprises a plurality of vents 20. The invention covers such a molding element 10 comprising a plurality of vents 10, each covered by the porous coating 30 in the form of a porous cover 32.
The invention also covers a mould, in particular for curing a tire, comprising at least one molding element 10 with at least one vent 20 covered by the porous coating 30, as well as a mould, in particular for curing a tire, comprising a plurality of molding elements 10 each with a plurality of vents 20 covered by the porous coating 30.
Par non poreux, il est désigné une densité de matière supérieure à 98 %.Preferably, the molding element 10 is made of a non-porous material or so as not to be porous. Non-porous denotes a material density greater than 98%.
At the same time, the invention also covers a method for manufacturing a molding element 10 with at least one vent 20 covered by the porous coating 30. According to the invention, the method for manufacturing such a molding element 10 comprises the following steps :
a) manufacture of the molding element 10 and manufacture of at least one vent 20 in this molding element,
b) application of a porous coating 30 on the molding inner surface 12 of the molding element and in a zone where at least one vent opens, the porous coating forming a porous cover 32 at the outlet of the vent.
In more detail, the porous coating 30 is applied in such a way that it has little or no penetration into the vent. In any case, the porous coating 30 is applied so that it does not extend the full depth of the vent.
In a first implementation variant of step a), the vent 20 is just manufactured with the molding element 10. For this purpose, the molding element 10 and the vent 20 can be manufactured simultaneously by additive manufacturing , for example in additive manufacturing by powder bed deposition and selective melting.
Additive manufacturing by powder bed deposition and selective fusion is an additive manufacturing process in which one or more objects are manufactured by the selective fusion of different layers of additive manufacturing powder superimposed on each other. The first layer of powder is deposited on a support such as a plate, then selectively fused using one or more sources of energy or heat according to a first horizontal section of the object(s) to be manufactured. Then, a second layer of powder is deposited on the first layer of powder which has just been merged, and this second layer of powder is in turn selectively merged, and so on until the last layer of powder useful for the manufacture of the last horizontal section of the object(s) to be manufactured.
In the present invention, the selective melting of a layer of powder is for example obtained by the displacement, called scanning, of the spot of at least one laser beam on said layer of powder.
In a second implementation variant of step a), the molding element 10 is manufactured first, then, secondly, at least one vent is made in this molding element by removing material. In this second variant, the removal of material can be carried out by chemical attack, by chemical and electrolytic attack, by mechanical machining, using a laser beam, or using a laser beam contained in A water jet.
In a third implementation variant of step a), a vent 20 takes the form of a piece inserted into the molding element 10 and comprising this vent. To this end, a housing is provided in the molding element 10 to receive the insert comprising the vent. This housing can come from manufacturing with the molding element, for example by additive manufacturing, in casting or machining, or be created by removing material from a molding element manufactured during a previous step.
According to the invention, the thickness of the porous coating 30 applied in step b) is between 5 and 50 μm, and preferably between 5 and 20 μm.
For example, the porous coating applied in step b) is a fluoropolymer coating. This type of coating offers interesting non-stick properties for mold release.
Different methods can make it possible to apply the porous coating 30 to the molding element 10 during step b). Thus, the porous coating applied in step b) is applied by spraying, by dipping in a bath, or by spraying powder on the molding element 10 which has been polarized beforehand and which undergoes, for example, cooking or heating. then to polymerize the powder.
Idéalement, quand l’évent 20 prend la forme d’une fente, le procédé prévoit que la fente 22 est fabriquée avec une largeur l22 comprise entre 30 et 80 µm lors de l’étape a).Ideally, when the vent 20 takes the form of a slot, the method provides that the slot 22 is manufactured with a width l22 of between 30 and 80 μm during step a).
For example, when the vent 20 is a slot 22 whose width l22 is between 30 μm and 55 μm, the method makes provision for applying a coating having a thickness of between 5 μm and 20 μm. When the vent 20 is a slot 22 whose width l22 is between 55 μm and 80 μm, the method provides for applying a coating having a thickness of between 20 μm and 50 μm.
In order to promote the adhesion of the porous coating 30 to the molding element, a step of sandblasting the molding element 10 can be carried out between steps a) and b). Advantageously, when a step of sandblasting the molding element is provided after the manufacture of this molding element 10 with the vent 20, the vent is closed off or protected by a mask during this sandblasting step.
