Description

SAFETY KNIFE WITH BLADE HOLDER

This disclosure relates to the field of safety knives for handling work such as stripping, cutting and stripping packaging.

It is known to make safety knives provided with a blade holder head provided with a rear cutout leaving a central part of the blade visible but protecting the end of the blade by a beak. Document FR 3 004 135 A1 describes such a knife comprising a single lateral cutout giving access to a part of the blade.

In the known embodiments, the head comprises for example a removable cover which makes it possible to replace the blade or, for certain knives, to turn it over to use a second part of the blade when the first part is blunt. However, replacing or turning the blade exposes it, which can cause injury to an operator handling it.

Summary

This disclosure improves the situation and protects the blades during their replacement.

To do this, the present invention proposes a safety knife comprising a knife body extending in a longitudinal direction and extended by a blade holder termination, for which the blade holder termination comprises a housing for receiving a blade support a blade, said blade holder being provided with at least one rear cut-out for access to part of the blade and with a protective beak for one end of the blade, said blade holder, once inserted into said termination, forming with said termination a blade holder head with rear cutout for access to part of the blade and protective beak of one end of the blade.

The housing for receiving the blade support may be a housing transverse to said longitudinal direction of the body of the knife.

said housing and the blade support may comprise means for guiding the blade support in the tongue-groove type knife.

The knife body may include a cutout for receiving a blade holder locking pusher, said pusher being provided with a blade holder locking finger fitting into a blade holder locking notch.

The locking finger is advantageously inserted into said notch in a direction transverse to said guide means and is preferably maneuverable in the longitudinal direction to lock or unlock the blade holder.

The pusher can be returned to the blade support blocking position by a spring.

The present disclosure further relates to a blade holder comprising two cutouts for access to the blade and two protective spouts symmetrical with respect to an axis perpendicular to the edge of the blade so as to allow insertion of the blade holder into said termination according to a first position giving access to a first blade access cutout and in an upturned position giving access to the second of said blade access cutouts.

The blade support can comprise a body overmoulded on the blade or two half-shells assembling on the blade.

A head part of the blade support can be provided with two arms forming said blade end protection beaks.

The blade support may include a base from which extend two legs parallel to said arms.

Claims (9)

Safety knife comprising a knife body (1) extending in a longitudinal direction (A) and extended by a blade holder termination (1a), characterized in that the blade holder termination comprises a housing (6) for receiving a blade support (3) carrying a blade (4), said blade support (3) being provided with at least one rear cutout (8a, 8b) for access to part of the blade (4) and with a beak (5) for protecting one end of the blade, said blade support, once inserted into said termination, forming with said termination a blade holder head (7) with a rear cut-out (8a, 8b) for access to part of the blade and beak (5) for protecting one end of the blade. Safety knife according to claim 1 for which the housing for receiving the blade support is a housing transverse to the said longitudinal direction (A) of the body of the knife and for which the said housing (6) and the blade support (3) comprise means for guiding the blade support in the tongue-groove type knife (33, 62). Safety knife according to Claim 1 or 2, for which the knife body comprises a cutout for receiving a plunger (2) for locking the blade support (3), the said plunger being provided with a finger (23) for locking of the blade holder fitting into a notch (32) for locking the blade holder. Safety knife according to claims 2 and 3 wherein said locking finger fits into said notch in a direction transverse to said guide means and is operable in the longitudinal direction to lock or unlock the blade holder. Safety knife according to Claim 3 or 4, in which the pusher is returned to the blade support blocking position by a spring (13). Blade support (3) for a knife according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises two cutouts (8a, 8b) for access to the blade and two protective spouts (5a, 5b) symmetrical with respect to to an axis (B) perpendicular to the edge of the blade (4) so as to allow insertion of the blade support into said termination according to a first position giving access to a first cutout (8a) for access to the blade and into a flipped position giving access to the second (8b) of said blade access cutouts. Blade support according to claim 6 comprising a body overmoulded on the blade or two half-shells assembling on the blade. Blade support according to claim 6 or 7 comprising a base (31) from which extend and two legs (31a, 31b) parallel to said arms. Blade support according to any one of claims 6 to 8 comprising a head part (3a) covering the blade above the two arms forming two beaks (5a, 5b) for protecting the ends of the blade.
