Elle comprend un moteur linéaire asynchrone comportant : - un inducteur fixe (1) formé par une succession de tronçons (4) adjacents, comprenant un noyau (6) en matériau ferromagnétique et un bobinage (5) polyphasé comportant un ensemble de bobines planes multi-spires agencées autour du noyau (6), - un induit mobile (2) destiné à se déplacer le long de l'inducteur fixe (1), comprenant un matériau ferromagnétique, et présentant une section transversale en forme globale de U inversé, l'induit mobile (2) coiffant l'inducteur fixe (1) en formant un entrefer, chaque tronçon (4) étant électromagnétiquement relié au tronçon (4) adjacent et chaque bobine (5) plane située à une région d'extrémité d'un tronçon étant électromagnétiquement reliée à une bobine (5) plane de la même phase située à la région d'extrémité d'un tronçon (4) adjacent de sorte qu'en fonctionnement de la catapulte électromagnétique (200), le champ magnétique glissant induit dans le moteur linéaire asynchrone est substantiellement continu le long de la voie active.
