L'invention concerne un procédé de pilotage d'un dispositif de lubrification d'un moteur à combustion interne (1), ledit dispositif de lubrification comprenant un réservoir auxiliaire (2) connecté à un carter d'huile (3) du moteur à combustion interne par une ligne d'admission (15) de lubrifiant (10) dans le réservoir auxiliaire équipée d'une vanne d'entrée (17) commandée pour réguler le débit de lubrifiant entrant dans le réservoir auxiliaire, et, d'autre part, une ligne d'évacuation (21) de lubrifiant hors du réservoir auxiliaire équipée d'une vanne de sortie (23) commandée pour réguler le débit de lubrifiant sortant du réservoir auxiliaire, ledit procédé de pilotage comportant des étapes de : - détermination d'une valeur mesurée du volume de lubrifiant contenu dans le carter d'huile par un capteur (20) de volume d'huile ; - comparaison de la valeur mesurée avec une première valeur seuil ; et - commande de l'ouverture de la vanne d'entrée et de la fermeture de la vanne de sortie si la valeur mesurée est supérieure à la première valeur seuil.
