Abstract

Driving assistance system for a motor vehicle (1) equipped with hazard warning lights (9), characterized in that it furthermore comprises at least one image projection device (7) arranged on the sill (4) of the vehicle (1), close to the wheel turn (5) of a front wheel (6) of the vehicle (1) and capable of projecting on the ground, in a space corresponding to a lateral approach of the vehicle ( 1), a safety zone (8) for the occupants of the vehicle (1) when the latter is in danger situation indicated by the illumination of the hazard warning lights (9) of the vehicle (1).

Description

ASSISTANCE SYSTEM FOR DRIVING A MOTOR VEHICLE

The present invention relates to driving assistance systems for motor vehicles and relates more particularly to a system making it possible to secure the lateral approaches of a motor vehicle when the vehicle's hazard lights, commonly designated by the English term “warning >>, are on.

In a conventional traffic situation on an open road, when the driver of a vehicle must stop his vehicle urgently and / or park it in an area not intended for parking, the usual use is that the driver of the vehicle activates manually hazard lights to warn other vehicles in its immediate environment, and in particular in its wake, of a potential or even real risk. As soon as a motor vehicle is stopped in an area normally prohibited from parking or limited to emergency cases such as emergency stop lanes on expressways, it is recognized that the danger is greatest when passengers leave of the vehicle to stand behind the safety barriers as recommended by traffic accident prevention organizations. This danger is especially greatest for passengers located on the side of the taxiway when they leave the vehicle.

Currently, the Warning and Danger Warning Systems, mainly implemented by the vehicle's front and rear lights in simultaneous flashing mode, only serve to alert other vehicles of the presence of a danger or of a problem with the vehicle.

These systems do not make it possible to secure, in addition, the side areas of the vehicle by visually delimiting a safety perimeter around the vehicle.

The object of the present invention is in particular to provide a simple and inexpensive solution making it possible to secure the occupants of the vehicle when they leave the vehicle and thus reduce the risk of accident.

To this end, it offers a driving assistance system for a motor vehicle equipped with hazard warning lights, characterized in that it further comprises at least one image projection device disposed on the underbody of the vehicle. , close to the wheel turn of a front wheel of the vehicle and capable of projecting onto the ground, in a space corresponding to a lateral approach to the vehicle, a safety zone for the occupants of the vehicle when the latter is in danger signaled by the ignition of the vehicle's hazard warning lights.

According to one characteristic, the safety zone defines a "light carpet" on the ground of width and length determined by the dimensions of the vehicle.

According to another characteristic, the safety zone extends from the front door of the vehicle towards the rear of the vehicle and is visible from a distance by other vehicles.

According to another characteristic, the security zone displays fixed or animated signaling information which is understandable for the occupants of the vehicle.

According to another characteristic, the information is able to encourage the occupants to leave the vehicle in a specific direction.

According to another characteristic, the image projection device projects the images onto the ground when opening at least one door of the vehicle.

In a variant, the system according to the invention comprises two image projection devices arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle to be able to project onto the ground, respectively two safety zones on either side of the vehicle. The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising a driving assistance system as described above.

The present invention makes it possible to reduce the accidentology of pedestrians on fast lanes by adding a safety layer to existing alarm and warning systems. The invention will be better understood and other characteristics and advantages will appear more clearly on reading the description below given by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which the figures illustrate a driving assistance system. according to the invention, and in particular: - Figure 1 illustrates in a side view, a vehicle provided with a driving assistance system according to the invention delimiting a protection zone on one of the side edges of the vehicle; and - Figure 2 illustrates in a top view, the vehicle provided with the driving assistance system according to the invention defining a visual safety perimeter on either side of the side edges of the vehicle.

FIG. 1 illustrates a view from the left side of a motor vehicle 1 on which there is a left front door 2 corresponding to the driver's door and the left rear door 3.

Similarly, on the right side of vehicle 1, there is a distinction (Fig. 2), the right front door 2 ’(front passenger door) and the right rear door 3’ (rear passenger door).

In the example illustrated in FIG. 1, a projection device 7 is disposed on the front part of the rocker panel 4 near the wheel arch 5 of the front wheel 6. The projection device 7 comprises, in known manner, one or more several light sources based on LEDs, one or more LEDs (light-emitting diodes), associated with one or more projection lenses (microlens array). It is capable of projecting an image on the ground on either side of the lateral edges of the vehicle 1. The image projected on the ground is dimensioned so as to cover at least one zone 8, extending between the front door 2 and the rear door 3 of the vehicle 1 so as to create a light distribution also called “light carpet” with one or more patterns, fixed or animated, at the driver's choice or defined as basic by the vehicle manufacturer.

An identical image is projected in the same way on the right side of the vehicle 1 (Fig. 2) symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis XX ’of the vehicle. The numerical references remain the same, followed by a "‘ ".

The patterns can take different forms: parallel, fixed or flashing light bands, distribution of light points of fixed and variable density and / or intensity with progressive attenuation ("dimming" effect), etc., or supporting text, logo type patterns , pictograms, a combination of different shapes, etc.

Such a “light carpet” 8, 8 ′ in addition to the visual aesthetic aspect which it provides, (visual animation) makes it possible to light at night, in environments with or without low urban lighting, on sometimes irregular floors, the side of the vehicle 1.

The present invention advantageously exploits such a “light mat” 8, 8 ′ in the event of the hazard warning lights 9 of the vehicle 1 being switched on, to illuminate and delimit zones for securing the lateral approaches of the vehicle 1, thereby protecting the exit from occupants of vehicle 1 in danger, but this "light carpet" 8, 8 'never replaces the signaling of a danger such as the lighting of hazard lights 9 but on the contrary, adds an additional safety layer to that of the ignition of the hazard warning lights 9.

The width of the “carpet” 8, 8 ′ is determined to correspond at least to the maximum door opening travel width and its length is determined to cover areas extending from the front doors 2, 2 ′ of the vehicle 1 to the rear of vehicle 1 so as to define a sufficient safety perimeter for the occupants of vehicle 1 to be able to get out and then get away from vehicle 1 safely, seeing where they are setting foot and even orienting them towards a safety zone for example by a scrolling light arrows, while being seen from other vehicles.

The beam of light projected on the ground to create the "light carpet" 8, 8 ′ forms a determined angle with respect to the rocker panel 4.

This beam is therefore visible from a distance for the other vehicles, and signals that the vehicle 1 is stopped, which does not necessarily indicate the hazard warning lights 9 which can be lit while the vehicle is moving. This additional visual information makes it possible to indicate to motorists approaching vehicle 1, that vehicle 1 is stopped and of a potential exit from its occupants. This information allows them to estimate the safety space to be respected according to the extent of the "light carpet" 8, 8 ’, which will become more and more precise depending on the degree of approach.

Projection can be activated as soon as the driver of vehicle 1 activates the hazard warning lights 9 by pressing the hazard warning button on the driver's seat in the vehicle, or as soon as the hazard warning lights 9 are activated automatically following emergency braking. Alternatively, the projection is activated only when one of the doors of the vehicle 1 is opened and when two projectors are installed symmetrically to the longitudinal axis XX ′, only the projector on the side of the open door will be activated and therefore a single projection area therefore a single lateral safety area will be illuminated on the side of the open door.

The projection on the ground may be flashing with a flashing frequency identical to that of the hazard warning lights 9 and with a color similar to that of the hazard warning lights, typically orange.

Such a color is visible day and night.

Claims (8)

1 - Driving assistance system for a motor vehicle (1) equipped with hazard warning lights (9), characterized in that it further comprises at least one image projection device (7) arranged on the bottom body (4) of the vehicle (1), near the wheel turn (5) of a front wheel (6) of the vehicle (1) and able to project onto the ground, in a space corresponding to a lateral approach of the vehicle (1), a safety zone (8) for the occupants of the vehicle (1) when the latter is in a danger situation signaled by the lighting of the hazard warning lights (9) of the vehicle (1).
2 - System according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the safety zone (8) defines a "light carpet" on the ground of width and length determined by the dimensions of the vehicle (1).
3 - System according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the safety zone (8) extends from the front door (2) of the vehicle (1) towards the rear of the vehicle (1) and is visible from a distance by d other vehicles.
4 - System according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the safety zone (8) displays fixed or animated signaling information understandable for the occupants of the vehicle (1).
5 - System according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the information is able to encourage the occupants to exit the vehicle (1) in a determined direction.
6 - System according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the image projection device (7) projects the images on the ground when opening at least one door (2, 3) of the vehicle (1 ).
7 - System according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises two image projection devices (7, 7 ') arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis (XX') of the vehicle (1) for be able to project onto the ground, respectively two safety zones (8 and 8 ') on either side of the vehicle (1).
